DDA's Relay For Life Team - - Several DDA dancers were recently honored to be the featured performers for the Relay for Life Cancer Benefit in Overland Park. The dancers performed their award-winning competition routines for the cancer survivors and others. It was an incredible performance! Our dancers also formed a Relay Team with over 75 participants and raised hundreds of dollars for the American Cancer Society. They also won the coveted Team Spirit Trophy and Most Participation Award! Way to go dancers (and teachers)!
Denise's Disney Dancers - Our dancers were honored perform at Disney World in October 2009 for the second year in a row! Our group of 36 dancers ranging in age from age 5-18 was recently selected and performed at the Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World! The dancers went through a rigorous audition process and were selected to perform their 30 minute show which featured their award-winning competition routines and a new production number choreographed just for the Disney trip - Mickey's In the House. They were fantastic! Our Disney Dancers were also the featured performers at the Harlem Globetrotters game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City - where they were able to perform an encore of their Disney Production number for the crowd.
En Pointe Ballet Company - We are proud to be the home of En Pointe Ballet Company. This non-profit ballet performance company was formed in 2007 under the direction of Nadine Price-Rojas. The invitation-only group has performed at numerous venues around Kansas City, including Operation Breakthrough, the Kansas City Chocolate Festival, and the Candy-Coated Christmas Celebration. Our dancers rehearse many hours a month and give generously of their time and talents! Check out our new web page dedicated to these dancers.
National Dance Day Celebration:
DDA is proud to be involved in many charity events and pariticipate in communtiy service volunteer opportunities. We were the host to National Dance Day - Dance Directive - on July 31 , 2010. In conjunction with So You Think You Can Dance, one of our graduating seniors, Hope Piernick, put together a charity event that was a fun day of dance for DDA dancers! Hope enlisted the help of several DDA Staff members and other dance professionals to host an in-house dance convention - with all proceeds being donated to the Dizzy Feet Foundation - which helps those less fortunate afford to take dance lessons. We are so proud of Hope and of all of our dancers for helping such a great cause!
So You Think You Can Dance! DDA Dancers were the featured dancers for the pre-show of the 2010 tour of So You Think You Can Dance at the Sprint Center! We were honored to be invited by the Sprint Center Entertainment Director to do a 30 minute show for the audience. Dancers performed some of their award-winning solo, duets, and group dances as well as a Finale Number with all dancers in attendance. Many of our dancers were also able to meet and greet the dancers on tour - both backstage and after the show. You can view some of our pictures on the Photo Gallery page.
